John was born in Taycheedah, Wisconsin and raised in Racine, son of the late Phillip and Margaret Thomas. John graduated from Racine High School and proudly served with the United States Air Force for 4 years. For years, John bartended at many establishments throughout the city including the Left End Steakhouse, Tower Tavern, Welcome Inn and the Eagles Club. John also drove for Handicare and school bus for Brandt Buses.
John will always be remembered as a jack of all trades. He was the kind of guy who could build or fix anything. His biggest love were the classic cars and loved to watch the Barrett Jackson auctions. He knew the year, model and engine the car had and would start to tell stories about how he would drive his mother crazy in his younger days racing his Harley and hot rods he used to build.
John was very proud of his Irish heritage and always looked forward to St. Patrick's Day. He was a very knowledgeable man and it seemed he always would argue with the biggest guy in the place and never backing down knowing he was right. He was a small man but had a big heart and would do anything to help a friend or family member in need. He enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, playing bingo and dining at Green Street with Shirley.
John was not perfect as none of us are, but we all knew he loved us and we will miss him very much.
Survivors include four sons: John Jr., Joe, Jim, Jeff; three daughters that he raised as his own: Melody, Wendy, Kari; a brother: Scott; five sisters: Jean, Kathy, Mary, Donna, Ellen; son and daughters-in-law; grandchildren; nieces, nephews, aunts, and many friends. John was preceded in death by the love of his life; Shirley King; his parents: Phillip and Margaret Thomas; a brother-in-law: Alex; and best friends: Mac McCredie and Mike Phillips.
Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center in Manitowoc and per John's request, there will be no services and his cremated remains will be buried next to Shirley in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
