Lynchburg, Feb 28 [1914] - Lydell E Farley, the father of Mrs Ellison DuRant Smith, died Thursday at 2 o'clock at the home of Senator Smith. Mr Farley was 62 years of age. For the last four years he made his home with the Senator and Mrs Smith at Lynchburg. He had been in failing health for some time. The interment took place at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Laurens in the family cemetery of the Farleys.

Mr Farley leaves four children, Hugh S Farley of Saluda, R Farley of Oklahoma, William Farley of Spartanburg, and Mrs Ellison D Smith. For many years Mr Farley lived in Spartanburg. He was at one time a member of the House of Representatives. His brother was adjutant general of the State.

Senator and Mrs Smith hurried from Washington to Mr Farley's bedside as soon as they were notified of his illness. They accompanied the remains to Laurens yesterday.

Laurens, March 1 [1914] - The burial of the late Lydell E Farley, whose death occurred at Florence last Thursday at the home of his son in law, United States Senator, Ellison DuRant Smith ["Cotton Ed"], took place here yesterday afternoon. The simple service was conducted by the Rev J R T Major, pastor of the Methodist church. Senator Smith and other members of the family accompanied the body to its final resting place.

Mr Farley was a native of this county and was a brother of the late Hugh L Farley. Following the advent of the Tillman regime, Mr Farley was elected to the legislature from Spartanburg county for one or two terms, having moved to that county along about 1880.
