Mrs. George Meggison, 90, of Charlevoix's oldest residents, and mother of former State Representative Clarence B. Meggison died Sunday, at Charlevoix hospital, where she had been a patient since November 8. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Winchester Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond J. McBratnie officiating. Burial was at Brookside Cemetery. Born at Norwood, March 20, 1873, the former Edith Phelps was reared at Norwood, then a thriving lumbering community, and attended school with the author, Rex Beach, also a native of that community. She married Mr. Meggison in Charlevoix on July 3, 1893. They resided in Charlevoix for several years before moving to a farm in Marion Township. They lived there until 1942, when they returned here to make their home on Antrim Street. Mr. Meggison preceded her in death in May, 1960.
She was a charter member of the First Methodist Church here, a member of the Marion Center Farm Bureau and a former member of the Marion Center Grange. Besides her son Clarence B. Meggison of this city, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lavern E. (Florence) McGahn of Charlevoix, Mrs. Grant (Beryl) Mudge of Englewood, Florida and Torch Lake Village and Mrs. Theodore (Linda) Gravelin of San Gabriel, California, eight grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
