Jerome Oscar Dick Died Sept. 14, 2011 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Jerry was born on Oct. 26, 1938, to Oscar George and EdrieJean Dick, and was
the grandson of Hector and Mollie Dick and Emil and Marion Lindeman, they all
preceded him in death but were forever in his heart.
Jerry married and had three wonderful children with Nola Dick: Christine Dick,
Eric (Marcie) Dick and Molly (Steve) Adams. Jerry married Karen (Kelly) Dick
on Dec. 20, 1980, and they spent the next 30+ years enjoying their family,
friends and life together.
Jerry had nine grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren: Maria Schwabe, Sonja
Nolan, Sahara Adams, Carl Dick, Evelyn Dick, Marilyn Dick, Amber DeSchoolmeister,
Fathom Adams, Kally Ratz, Willow Adams, Elijah Rodriguez, Mollie Schwabe and Ava
Walters. Jerry was so proud of his family, the choices they made and the love
they showed their families. He was always bragging about one or all of them.
Jerry graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1957. he enjoyed
his class reunions every five years. He also attended Oklahoma State University
School of Baking, graduating in 1960.
Jerry worked in the family business, Dick Bros. Bakery, starting at an early age
as a baker's assistant and then many bakery positions later, he served as Director
of Sales and President of Dick Bros. until 1980 when the bakery was sold. Jerry
worked for Richter Vinegar until his retirement in 1995. Jerry was a huge part
in making Memories the gift shoppe in downtown Manitowoc a success. Jerry and
Kelly retired from retail in 2003 and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Jerry volunteered at the Bonnet House, a 1920 estate, giving Nature Tours. He was
president of his condo association and generally kept busy helping everyone.
Jerry was a member and served as past president of The First Lutheran Youth Church
League, The Wisc Bakers Association, Wisconsin Bakers Production Club, the
Manitowoc Business Improvement District, The Manitowoc City Center Association,
The Manitowoc Jaycees, the Wisconsin Jaycee Foundation. He was a lifetime member
of the Jaycees Senate and the United States Jaycee Senate and past Vice-president
of Holiday House of Manitowoc County. Jerry served many years on the board of
directors for the Manitowoc Optimists, the Manitowoc Noon Kiwanis, the Manitowoc
County Chiefs Football Inc. and the Manitowoc County Lakes Association, Pigeon
Lake Association and the Capitol Civic Centre. He was on the Executive Committee
for the Preservation of the Capitol Civic Centre. Jerry was a member of the
Manitowoc Yacht Club and a 50+-year-member of the Elks Club No. 687 of Manitowoc,
the Elks Club No. 1898 of Pompano Beach, Fla. There were other boards, projects
and associations that kept Jerry forever busy.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen Dick, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; all of his
children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Also his brothers and sisters:
Darleen Young, Roger (Peggy) Dick, Rev. Robert (Maria) Dick. Anne (Ed) Schultz,
Patty (Stan) Cornell, Tony (Sally) Dick, JoAnn (Ric) Benzinger, Stacia (Mark)
Schuster.
Jerry will never be forgotten because he always had a smile and a kind word for
everyone he met. He will truly be missed by family and friends.
