GULFPORT --- Alice Cooper Purser, 79, went to join her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 21, 2000.

She was born on January 11, 1921, in Stockbridge, Mass., and has been a resident of Gulfport since 1947. She was a beloved Christian, former secretary of the First Baptist Church of Lyman, Sunday School teacher and choir member for over 40 years. She was a member and officer of the Mississippi Extension Homemakers Council for many years.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Hubert Keith Purser of Gulfport; two daughters, Susan Coakley and Nancy Lopez; and one son, Jimmy Purser, all of Gulfport; two sisters, Grace Johnson of New York and Mary Kendall of Connecticut; and one brother, Raymond Cooper; seven grandchildren, Travis and Alison Coakley, Kathy and Keith Purser, Matthew, Jonathan and Sarah Lopez, and Lori Bosarge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Lyman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, U.S. 49 North, Gulfport. A service will be Thursday, March 23, 2000, in the funeral home chapel with burial in Evergreen Gardens Cemetery in Gulfport.
