Alfred Simeon Brengle, age 96, of Greensboro, GA, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Brengle was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 23, 1917 to the late Clyde Monroe Brengle and Lillie Tracy Brengle.

He earned his Bachelor's Degree in chemistry from the University of Arizona, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

During World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific.

Most of his working career was spent with Chevron Research from 1947 until 1977 as a chemist. He retired in April of 1977 after thirty years of service that took him from Tennessee to Oregon and California. Then he retired to Lake Oconee in Greene County in 2001.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN, but since moving to the lake he attended Lakeside Baptist in Greensboro and Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church in Eatonton, GA. Reading was his favorite activity, but he also enjoyed crossword puzzles and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose Trethewey Brengle on March 1, 2006; and siblings, Violet B. Marshall, Reva Pearl Hawkins, Vernon "Budge" Brengle, Margaret Brengle and Glen Brengle.

He is survived by his son, Neal Brengle of San Rafael, and his two daughters, Karen Hildebrand of Greensboro, GA and Brett Jorgensen of Knoxville, TN; his two brothers, John William Brengle and Charles Brengle; seven grandchildren, Kirsten Smith of Corte Madera, CA, Chad Brengle of San Francisco, CA, Staci Thomas of Atlanta, GA, Heather Fulghum of Knoxville, TN, Rev. Christopher Hildebrand of Brooklyn, NY, Cory Jorgensen of Knoxville, TN and Jeff Jorgensen of Smyrna, GA; fourteen great grandchildren, Campbell Thomas, Copleigh Thomas, Contessa Thomas, Carrington Thomas, Tyler Fulghum, Callie Fulghum, Zoe Fulghum, Jaslyn Smith, Josie Smith, Owen Hildebrand, Evelyn Hildebrand, Jacob Hildebrand, Wells Hildebrand and Quinn Jorgensen; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services with military honors will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Madison Memorial Cemetery, Central Avenue, Madison, GA 30650 with the Rev. Christopher Hildebrand officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Chad Brengle, Cory Jorgensen, Jeff Jorgensen, John Thomas, John Jorgensen, Jim Hildebrand, John Gibbons, and Billy Fulghum.
