James "Jim" Milton Payne, 69 of Boerne, Texas, peacefully passed away October 31, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born October 28, 1944 to Max and Loveta Payne in McKinney, Texas, the youngest of 3 children. Jim graduated from Lewisville High School in 1963 where he served as his class president. Following high school, Jim went to Texas A&M University where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and graduated with his Bachelors of Arts degree in History and English in 1967. As a freshman at Texas A&M, Jim met the love of his life, LuClare and they were married December 6, 1969.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, three children and their spouses; five grandchildren; his two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Loveta Payne.

Following graduation, Jim was commissioned in the United States Army where he served as a helicopter pilot and completed two tours to Vietnam. During his first tour to Vietnam, he served with the Special Forces as a Huey pilot and as a Cobra Attack Helicopter pilot in his final tour. His service to his country earned him the Bronze Star and 21 air medals. Up until his death, Jim was a proud member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association.

After his Army career, Jim followed in his father's footsteps and entered the banking industry with Dallas Federal Savings and Loan. He worked at various banking institutions in the Dallas Fort Worth area, prior to moving to San Antonio to begin a career with Broadway National Bank in 1996. He retired from 41 years of banking in January 2013 as a Senior Vice President and District Manager for the Lone Star Division of Broadway Bank.

Jim loved to hunt and fish whenever he could; especially when he was able to meet with a group of friends for an annual turkey and deer hunt. He loved watching Aggie Football, being with his dogs Bailey and Sophie and most importantly, spending as much time as possible with his family.
