Robert Gustav McGowan, 78, husband of the late Arlys Jean Haugli McGowan, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at Agape Senior in Conway, SC. He was born May 24, 1935 in Manhattan, NY, a son of the late Robert and Hilda Masnovo McGowan. He was a proud retired US Navy Veteran. Survivors include: one son, Robert McGowan, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; two daughters, Brenda Clayton and husband, Anthony of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Cheryl Baker and husband, John, Sr. of Pennsboro, WV; three step-sons, Jerry Mensch of Myrtle Beach, SC, George Mensch and wife, Sue of Columbia, SC, and Glenn Mensch and wife, Ellen of NJ; one step-daughter, Linda Geus of OR; one brother, Edward McGowan of NY; twenty grandchildren and one predeceased; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Robert's parents are Robert McGowan Sr. and Hilda (Masnovo) McGowan.

For most of Robert Jr. adult life he was known to friends and some family as "Robert Sr". Per his birth certificate, and his state issued ID he was indeed a Jr.

Robert Jr. also named a son Robert Jr. This Robert Jr. also named a son Robert III.
