Joseph York, age 78, resident of Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his residence.

Joe was born on August 11, 1933 in Manitowoc to the late Bernard and Mary Hyner York. He attended Lincoln High School and then went on to serve his country with the United States Army. Joe achieved the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1955. On December 23, 1955, Joe married Mary Lou Thompson at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. He was employed with Fred Radandt Sons for 42 years. Joe enjoyed volunteering for Heart-A-Rama and Masquer's. He loved spending his time gardening, fishing with his grandchildren, and being with his family and friends. Joe was a member of The Eagle's Club and St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Mary Lou; three sons: Terry York and his fiancée, Peggy Thor, Michael (Cindy) York, and Timothy (Karen Lukes) York, all of Manitowoc; two daughters: Mary Jo (Randy) Murray, Manitowoc; and Sarah (Paul Fiske) Grovogel , Aiken, MN; 12 grandchildren: Jamie (Suzy) York, Amanda (Mark) Groth, Jodi (Josh) Weaver, Tara (Eric Buie) York, Josh Grovogel, Matthew York, Bailey Grovogel, Derek Lukes-York, Jordan Fiske, Makaila York, Dillon Lukes-York, and Madison York; six great grandchildren; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, two brothers: Edward and James York; and two sisters: Mary Vnuk and Gladys Budnik.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, June 4, 2012 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 2601 South 10th Street, Manitowoc from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Brian Staude will officiate. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel and burial of Joe's cremated remains will take place at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Joe's family would like to extend a special thank you to Aurora VNA hospice staff Terri, Pam and Lynn for the care and compassion they provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any memorials to be sent to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc.
