JOSEPH JAMES BARENIE Highland, Indiana Age 88 passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Clara (nee Fenske). Survived by six sons, Jim (Michelle) Barenie of Georgia, John (Gail) Barenie of Highland, Bob (Karen) Barenie of Michigan, Pete (Judy) Barenie of Illinois, Gerard (Cindy) Barenie of Schererville, Mark (Mary) Barenie of St. John; two daughters, Mary (Terry) Czapla of St. John, Dorothy (Keith) Wilgus of Valparaiso; 22 grandchildren, Brandon, Kevin, Tim, Christie, Kelly, Jeff, Brad, Jamie, Krista, David, Katie, Rachel, Stacey, Matthew, Michael, Megan, Christopher, Nicholas, Samantha, Miranda, Dustin, Savannah; three great-grandchildren; loving cousin, Bernice Chapman; loving caregiver, Albina Mikutaviciene. Also preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Hazel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 5 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Francis Lazar officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman (two blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, IN. Mr. Barenie graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt, Class of 1936. He attended Oglethorpe University on Georgia on a football scholarship. He was a World War II Veteran with the 533rd Amphibian Engineers; lifetime member of the Elks 981 of Highland and a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 369 of East Chicago who will hold services at 4:30 p.m. He belonged to the "Hole-in-One" Club at Wicker Park and Lake Hills Golf Courses. Joe retired from Lingy Air in 1980 after 3 million safe miles of driving. Joe was an avid Bobby Knight and IU Basketball fan. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Christian Home Health Services, 4200 W. 81st Ave., Merrillville, IN 46410. .
