Edward is a son of Maude Musgrave and Dan Paul Farley of Brackettville, Kinney, Texas.

He was their youngest son, his mother dying a few days before his 3rd birthday. His oldest of 4 sisters was only 15 and mothered him as well as she could.

He grew up on ranches; and was close to his brother, Frank, just three years older. Their father was a ranch hand for the King Ranch and later had his own livestock, the boys helping him run sheep in the Glass Mountains, Sanderson, Beeville and Brackettville areas.

Their grandfather had been in the Civil War. He died six years before Ed was born, but the boys liked hearing stories of him from their father, who had served as one of the earliest Terrell County Deputy Sheriffs, in what they thought of as "the olden days".

Ed married (1) Mary Elizabeth Gates. They had three children:
Edward Wayne Farley, md. Shirleen Craig; Mary Lynn Farley; md. Craig Costanzi & Ken Taylor; and Barbara Lee Farley.

They divorced and Ed married (2) Ruby Lee Upchurch (2 October 1954); they had one child: 1955, Harold Dean Farley.

MILITARY SERVICE; Veteran of World War II; He was 26 and had 2 children when he enlisted in the US Army, 27 April 1944, for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, at Fort San Huston, Texas.
