Rudolph G. Erler Dies Wednesday Night. Long Time Resident in Ill Health for Some Time

Rudolph G. Erler, 59, veteran Great Northern conductor, passed away at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, following an operation at 10 p.m. Monday. Announcement of his death last evening came as a shock to his friends and railroad associates who had worked with him for 33 years.

Rudolph G. "Rudy" Erler, was born May 27, 1876, near Berlin, Germany, and came to this country with his parents when six years old. His parents settled at Carrol, Iowa, remaining there throughout their lives. Mr. Erler came west in 1902 and entered the employ of the Great Northern Railroad, working a short time out of Minot, then out of Glasgow and Havre. On July 5, 1909, he was married to Lillian Quinn at Glasgow. Havre has been their home since about 1914.

He is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs. R.H. McIntosh of Los Angeles, at present visiting in Havre; Mrs. Carl (Gertrude) Holt of Duluth; Mrs. Robert (Lear) Ohland, and Vivian Erler, both of Havre; a sister, Mrs. C.B. Maynard of Sioux City, Iowa; and a brother, Ed Erler of Dennison, Iowa. A sister of Mrs. Erler, Mrs. Myrtle Aibbs, is on her way from Duluth with Mrs. Holt.

Mr. Erler had been in poor health for the past two years, and this fall spent three weeks in Asbury hospital in St. Paul. He had only made five trips since August, and the last few weeks had failed rapidly, having been in and out of the hospital. His condition became critical Monday, when a major operation was performed.

A very faithful and dependable railroad man, Mr. Erler was popular among his fellow employees who had watched his declining health with deep regret.
