B. I. "Birdie" Ellsworth, 84, of Tucson, AZ, and formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (November 3, 2013) at San Nicolas Assisted Living Center in Tucson, AZ.

Byrdna I. Lierman was born on March 1, 1929 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the daughter Gladys Alice Boetticher and Jack Swires Glanville. Birdie was blessed to be adopted at one day of age by Erhardt William and Luella Rose (Meyer) Lierman. She graduated from Filer High School in Idaho.

On June 8, 1947 Birdie was united in marriage to Roy Ellsworth, of Waterloo, IA, in Twin Falls. They made their home in Waterloo for 13 years before moving to Mason City in 1962.

Birdie attended and graduated from Pitzie's School of Cosmetology. She worked as a Beautician at the LaMaray Beauty Salon. She then began work at A.C. Nielson Co. where she would be employed for 18 years before her retirement in 1987.

She stayed active in many organizations including scouting, church circles, volunteering for Mercy Hospital, the Mason City Library, and the Nature Center. She also was active in the Garden Club of Mason City, a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and formerly served on the Elmwood – St. Joseph Cemetery Board. Birdie's primary interest was genealogy and was a member of the North Iowa Genealogy Society.

Those grateful in sharing in Birdie's life are her daughters, Debra Hamernick (Lee), Marana, AZ, and Sue Riese (Ron), South St. Paul, MN; her son, Rex Ellsworth, Miami, FL; four grandchildren; Alex (Jennifer) Hamernick, Brian (Lisa) Hamernick, Daniel (Nikki) Hamernick, Christopher Odegaard and his partner Bobby Jo McWilliam; 7 great grand children; Brianna, Samantha, Brady and Sierra Hamernick, Dominic and Mariah Odegaard and Morgan Massa and siblings, Lorene Erickson, Weiser, ID., and David Matthews, Seattle, WA.; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roy.
