Funeral rites were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for Mrs. Mary L. Brittain, 89, who died Tuesday morning following a ten week's illness. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery with the Hiscox Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Brittain, formerly Mary L. Roberts, was born at Red Bank, N. J., February 21, 1852 to Hendricks and Elizabeth Scott Roberts. She married James Brittain at Lee county, Ill., in 1874.

In 1876 the Brittains came to LaPorte, the original site of the city of Wayne. When the town was moved to its present site, they moved here and in 1883 built their home at 402 Lincoln street, where they both resided until their death. Mr. Brittain died January 26, 1918.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Edna Stewart of Minneapolis, Miss Faye Brittain, who teaches in the Omaha public school system; one son, J. E. Brittain, city attorney of Wayne, two grandsons, Donald P. Miller of Lincoln, and Harry Stewart of Minneapolis; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Agler of Winside, Mrs. Lizzie Goodyear of Baldwin Park, Cal., and Mrs. George Hicks of Santa Barbara, Cal. One daughter, Mrs. Maude Miller, died in July, 1931.
