John R. "Jack" Baker, age 73, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

John R. "Jack" Baker, age 73, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 8 , 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa with the Reverend Richard A. Salcido & Reverend Adam J. Peck officiating. Burial was in the Ida Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by the McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion both of Ida Grove, Iowa.

John "Jack" Raymond Baker was born on August 28th 1940 in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Glenn and Beatrice (Briscoe) Baker. He joined two brothers and two sisters, Jerome; Shirley; Jim; and Sharon. They all grew up on the family farm North of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Jack attended school in Ida Grove graduating in 1958. Jack then went on to work for United Builders for many years in Ida Grove, where he learned his masonry. He then started Baker Masonry in Ida Grove, which he did until retiring in 2013.

Jack served in the Vietnam War as a Military Policeman in second infantry division (based in Korea). He was honorably discharged in 1968.

In 1960 Jack married Sherry Grove and to this union was born a daughter and a son, Christi Lynn and Barry. Jack married Carol Dethman in 1972.

On June 28th, 1997 Jack married Misti Miller West, and was blessed with a daughter Shaelyn. Jack also acquired two stepsons, Chris Miller-West and Nick West.

Jack loved his masonry work creating many homes around town and thoughout the surrounding area. He also enjoyed his chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, and many other animals along with gardening, and fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Misti, daughter Shaelyn, son, Barry (Brenda, Andrea, Lucas) Baker of Manning, Iowa; grandson, Kyle Baker of Manning, Iowa; and his two stepsons, Chris Miller-West of Ida Grove, Iowa; Nick West of Ida Grove, Iowa; sisters, Shirley (Ken) Palm of Ida Grove, Iowa; Sharon Courter of Belleville Michigan; brothers, Jerome (Joan) Baker of Holstein, Iowa; Jim (Carolyn) Baker of Red Oak, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews and many , many dear friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Christi Lynn, and brother-in-law Bob Courter.

In death Jack gave one of the greatest gifts of all, thru donation he gave the gift of sight.
