Mrs. George C. Cowles.

Wife of Retired Civil Engineer Was 72 Years Old.

Mrs. Lilah McCoy Cowles, 72 years old, a lifelong resident of Kansas City, died yesterday at St. Luke's hospital. Mrs. Cowles lived with her husband, George C. Cowles, retired civil engineer, at 717 West Thirty-sixth street.

Mrs. Cowles was the daughter of Dr. Theodore S. Case, who came to Kansas City in 1857. Her mother before her marriage was Miss Julia McCoy Lykins, daughter of one of Kansas City's first mayors. A great-grandfather of Mrs. Cowles was Dr. Isaac McCoy who came to this section in the early '40s as a missionary and physician to the Indians.

Mrs. Cowles was reared in a home which her father built near what is now Twenty-seventh street and Wyandotte avenue. She attended Kansas City's public schools.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cowles leaves two brothers, John L. Case, 912 Locust street, and Dr. Ermine Cowles Case, on the staff of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
