Dena was born "Derna Roni" in Tulare, CA on February 27, 1919, and passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2003, to be with the Lord, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Filberto and Ottivia; her husband of 29 years, Alfred Piarulli; dear friend, Lester A. Morrison of Fresno; and brothers, Louie Roni of San Bruno, and Roy Roni of Sacramento.
Dena and her family moved to the Sanger area where she attended Sanger High School, graduating in 1937.
She was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation for 54 years. Dena and her husband married on December 2, 1937, in Sanger at St. Mary's Catholic Church and lived in various locations before settling in the Sanger area.
They relocated to the Sunnyside area in 1960 where Dena resided for 34 years.
Dena and her husband farmed in the Sanger area near Centerville for 23 years. They were one of the leading growers and shippers of sweet corn and fresh fruit in the district.
They farmed under the label "Kings Canyon Farms".
After Alfred's death in 1967, she had various jobs, but working in the Fresno Air Terminal gift shop was her favorite.
After retirement she moved to the Clovis area in a retirement setting and loved all of the activities that went on.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Dennis Johnson of Fresno, Joan and Dan Wooldridge of Colorado, and Joyce Piarulli of Sylmar, CA; sisters, Jean Jensen of Citrus Heights, CA, and Doria Mencarini of Clovis, CA; brother, Henry Roni of Santa Clara, CA; grandchildren, Janelle Siar, and Timothy and Rochelle Wooldridge of Colorado; great-grand children, Katelyn Johnson, and Brody and Madison Siar, all of Fresno; and numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will follow at Sunnyside Health Club, 5707 E. Balch Ave. in Fresno.
