VERNON, Bertha Mae Ballard Known as "Bert" and "Grandma". Homegoing celebration services for Bertha, of Tampa, who passed away on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 9th, at 1 pm at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, 2002 North Rome Avenue, with Rev. Dr. C. T. Kirkland, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Born on Oct. 24, 1927. Educated in the Hillsborough County School System where she attended Glover Elementary School in the community of Bealsville. She met & married Charlie Vernon from Ocala, and to this union six children were born, Alveda, Mamie, Darlene, Charlie Jr., Derwin & Len. She retired from Hillsborough County School District. preceded in death by husband, Charlie Vernon Sr.; parents, John Wesley Ballard and Racheal Alveda Williams Ballard; son, Derwin Bernard Vernon; daughter, Darlene Vernon Reed (Carter); grandson, Carter Reed Jr. Survived by daughters, Alveda Vernon; daughter/son-in-law, Mamie Vernon Igles & Rudene Igles Sr.; sons, Charlie Vernon Jr. & Len Vernon (Tonyua); stepson, Curtis Vernon (Jessie); grands, great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, and neighbors.
