An article in the Caldwell, Ohio newspaper gives this information: "Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the St. John's Church, following short services at the home at two o'clock for John C. Stilts, well known and highly respected Beaver Township resident, who died suddenly in his home the Wednesday morning previous. He had been ill for several days of heart trouble but his death which was sudden and unexpected came as he started to get out of bed, death resulting instantly.

"The deceased was the son of William and Caseline [Cassandra] Stilts and was born in Noble County August 7, 1859, and was past 73 years of age at the time of his death. In 1913 he united with the Mt. Zion A. C. Church under the pastorate of Rev. Moore. His life was spent in the service of his family, neighbors and friends, and was a constant exemplification of Christ's teaching, 'inasmuch as we did it unto the least of these, ye did it also unto me.' On January 1, 1889, he united in marriage to Ida A. Long, who with the following children survive: James W. of Glendale, Cal., Claude A., Superintendent of the Buffalo, Ohio schools, Mrs. John A. Dollison of Quaker City and Edgar B. of Zanesville. He also leaves two granddaughters and hosts of friends."

In the Quaker City, Ohio newspaper: "Death summoned a prominent farmer of south of town Wednesday morning of this week when John Stilts, aged 75, passed away. Death occurred at about 6 o'clock a.m. Mr. Stilts had been under a doctor's care for several days with heart trouble and succumbed of heart failure shortly after leaving his sick bed for the first time Wednesday morning. He is survived by the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Edith Dollison of this place, three sons, Jim of Glendale, Calif., Claude of Buffalo, and Edgar of Zanesville, and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at St. Johns Church, and burial will be made at the St. Johns Cemetery. (Courtesy of Norma Stilts Grady)"
