Julian Post Lippincott was born in Marine Settlement, Illinois and was 18 years and six months old when he signed the Volunteer Enlistment papers on May 7th, 1864, at Jacksonville. He said he was a student and resided at DuQuoin, Perry County, Ill. He had blue eyes, light hair, fair complexion and was 5’5” tall. He was mustered into the service of the United States for 100 days in Company C, 145th Regiment of the Ill Inf. Volunteers on the 9th day of June, 1864 at Camp Butler, Illinois. He mustered-out Sept 23rd.

From his pension file - born on October 27th, 1847 at Marine Settlement, IL. to Thomas Lippincott and Catherine Wiley Leggett. Thomas was born in Charlestown, New Jersey and Catherine in New York City.

Julian married Clara Moulton Adams on 12 March 1874, they had four children.

(1) Alice - b. Dec. 31, 1874, m. B.W. Stone, res. Buckeye, AZ.
(2) Winthrop Gilman L. - b. May 23, 1880; d. May 27, 1881
(3) William Adams L. - b. July 3, 1882
(4) Lucia Louise - b. Jan 29, 1891 m. H.E. Smith, Stanford, MT.

Clara died in 1922. At his death, Julian was a retired lawyer and 88 years old. He had been a Professor of Poultry Husbandry at Kansas State University at Manhattan, KS. He lived at 1169 Spruce, Berkley, CA., and died on July 22, 1936. He is buried in Oakland Co., CA.

BERKELEY G.A.R. MEMBER DIES

BERKELEY, July 22 -- Julian P. Lipppincott, 88, Civil War veteran, and member of Lookout Mountain Post No. 88, G.A.R. died today after a brief illness at his home, 1169 Spruce Street.

Lippincott was one of the three surviving members of the Post; and held four offices in the chapter at the time of his death. He served in Company C, 145th Illinois Infantry.

After the war Lippincott studied law and practiced for more than 50 years before retiring.

Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Alice Stone of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Lucia Smith, of Bozeman, Montana, and a grandson, William A. Lippincott of Berkeley.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
