Burton was born in Bloomington August 29, 1933 and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bloomington High School. While in school he was a radio announcer at the local radio station, WTTS, on South Walnut across from the old Bloomington High School. For many years he operated the Riggs Real Estate Agency and also was an auctioneer. He worked as an accountant for the local General Electric Company, retiring from there. The main focus of his career was to teach ones in the community the Bible's hope for the future. He was very active in this work as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Burton is survived by Barbara his wife of 51 years. Also one sister, Martha of Pomona, CA, one sister-in-law, Margaret Kern of Bedford IN, as well as many nieces and nephews, and his extended family, too many to mention.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Bessie Riggs, brother's Jim, Bill, and Henry, and sister's Nina, Velma, Betty, and Lucy.
The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. in Bloomington is handling the arrangements.
There will not be a visitation. A graveside service will be conducted by Brother John Watkins 10:00am Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Valhalla Memory Gardens. A memorial service will take place 2:00pm Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1201 W Tapp Road Bloomington IN. Brother John Watkins officiating.
We have lost a dear friend, faithful brother, and husband.
In lieu of floral arrangements, the family suggests Memorial contributions may be sent to Jehovah's Witnesses, 1201 W Tapp Road Bloomington IN 47403.
