Edward Butner fought in Capt. David Robb's Company of Mounted Riflemen, of the Indiana Militia, and was among those who died after the Battle of Tippecanoe. There is a monument in Battle Ground, Indiana, which honors those killed. Edward died the next day after being wounded. The monument reads:
