Babe Baritell October 5, 1924 - November 8, 2013 "Babe" Harold F. Baritell, 89, most recently of Camillus, passed away peacefully with family on Friday at the Francis House.
Born October 5, 1924, in Kingwood, WV, he attended Potomac State College, where he met his future wife, Lois Ruf. He served with the US Navy during WW II as an Electronics Mate First Class, stationed in the Pacific Theatre. Babe was a salesman with US Steel and moved to the Syracuse area in 1949 and soon after founded, owned and operated Syracuse Steel Service. While living in the Syracuse area he was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons and Drumlins Country Club (aka) Nottingham Knolls. After his retirement in 1974, he and his wife relocated back to their beloved, Kingwood, WV, where he belonged to the Preston Country Club. Babe, an avid golfer, was a member of the Wheaties Hole-in-One Club, recording his first ace at age 22 and went on to earn seven more. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wintering in Florida and frequent trips to upstate New York to visit family. Last year he moved back to NY to be closer to family and resided at Camillus Ridge Terrace where his care was extraordinary and friendships flourished. Babe continued to enjoy golf as an honorary member of The Pompey Club. Surviving are three children, Susan Baritell of Petaluma, CA, Frank (Sally) Baritell of DeRuyter and David (Jayne) Baritell of Tully; a sister, Christine Schilling of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Josh, Frankie, Tim, Carissa and Bennett; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Lois in 2002, his parents, four sisters and two brothers. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 pm at the Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home, 2584 Field Lane, LaFayette (at Route 20 Cardiff). Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Kingwood, WV. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider Hospice of CNY or the Francis House, in his memory.
