Born Dudley Worcestershire 29 may 1897 4th child of Clara and Arthur Raybould. His siblings were Elsie Gladys, Ednam Arthur, Emily Mabel, Arnold Joseph, Howard William and Hilda Clara Raybould. He stowed away against his mothers wishes to join the Army during WW1. Leslie travelled to Australia on the passenger ship Makarini from London arriving New South Wales on 18 June 1914. He joined the Australian Imperial Force on 1 March 1916 with the unit 8 Rfts 30 Battalion
