FRIEDA GOVE

Frieda Grace Gove, 87, formerly of Grinnell, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell, with the Rev. Dr. Anthony Farrell officiating. Music was provided by organist Pat Shaw, harpist Emily McGary and members of St. Mary's Choir.

Pallbearers were Brian Fry, Steven and Scott Gunzenhauser and Leo, Daniel, Kathleen, Robert, David and Jerry Kelly. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Ulysses and Hattie Hunt Scott, she was born July 23, 1905, in Churdan. She was a 1922 graduate of Colfax High School. She attended Clark College and Drake University and received her teaching certificate from the former Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She taught school in Colfax and Bondurant.

On June 5,1926, she was married to Raymond Gove at Colfax. The couple moved to the Sully area to farm and later farmed near Grinnell. While living in the Grinnell area Mrs. Gove taught at rural schools in Bethel and Ewart. She also taught at Davis and Bailey Park elementary schools in Grinnell, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. She was a member of the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association.

Survivors are two daughters, Donna Gunzenhauser of Marengo and Nancy Kelly of Davenport; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Harold Scott; and one sister, Dorothy Barker.
