Marjorie Anne McCovey Abernathy, a member of the Hupa Valley Tribe, born in Hoopa, California on March 17, 1944 and a longtime resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away Monday, November 19, 2007 in Eureka, California at the age of 63 years, following a long battle with diabetes.
Marge is survived by her spouse, Lloyd Paul Abernathy, of Hoopa, CA; her children: Chet Goodrow, of Edmonds, WA, Jamie Knodel, of Marysville, WA, Shani Johnson, of Portland, OR, Paul Abernathy, of Sedro-Woolley, WA, and Monica Abernathy, of Hoopa, CA; stepchildren: Gene Abernathy, of Bow, WA, and Jeremy Abernathy, of Burlington, WA; grandchildren: Kevin Knodel, Jacob Knodel, Joel Knobel, Kyle Knobel, Natalya Johnson, Violet Johnson, Lacey Abernathy, Ian Abernathy, and Maison Abernathy; her beloved siblings: George ‘Chet’ McCovey, Lincoln McCovey, Shirley Parrish, Leonard Lee McCovey Sr, Judith Hatter, Pliny E. McCovey Sr, Arden McCovey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents: George Washington McCovey and Mary Ann Jackson McCovey, of Hoopa, CA; and a grandson, Josh Goodrow of Sedro-Woolley, WA.
Marge’s hobbies included cooking, shopping, reading, dancing, painting, bowling, gardening, swimming, sewing, playing games, and rooting for her favorite team, the Mariners, and she was also a member of the same bridge group for over 30 years.
Marge was appropriately born on St. Patrick’s Day as she enjoyed all holidays; her favorite time of the year was Christmas.
Marge was very dedicated to education; she worked for the Sedro-Woolley School District for 29 years and retired in 2005. Marge will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley, with Pastor Wendy Tingley of Trinity United Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment to follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery.
