Edward J. D'Elia, 88 of Stockton passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010. He was born July 19, 1921 in Medford, Mass. Edward moved his family to California 43 years ago. He retired from the Civil Service in 1977 and he and his wife Virginia started their life of babysitting grandchildren in between traveling through the United States and Europe. He was a member and past President of the Italian Athletic Club. After serving in the Marines during World War II he married Virginia and they dance through 56 years of marriage.
Survivors include daughters: Denise Ranuio (Chris), Virginia San Julian (Paul) of Stockton; grandchildren: Heather San Julian of Clovis, Josh San Julian of San Diego, Christopher Ranuio and Stefan Ranuio of Stockton, brother Victor D'Elia, sister-in-law Betty D'Elia of Mass. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia, parents: Pasquale and Esther D'Elia, sisters: Anna Parsi, Pauline Ralston, brothers: Ralph and Freddie D'Elia. He also leaves behind his extended family at Valley Gardens who loved and took care of him in addition to providing many field trips "up the hill".
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park (Hwy 99 at Harney Ln. 13823 Beckman Rd., Lodi, CA 95240) followed by burial at Cherokee Memorial Park. There will be visitation at the DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton, CA on Monday, May 31, 2010 from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made to charity of choice or to the "Activity Center" at Valley Gardens Rehabilitation Center, 1517 Knicker-bocker Dr., Stockton, CA 95210.
