Dorothy M. Banks age 91, a resident of Irving since 1963, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Baylor Medical Center in Irving. Born February 16, 1922 in Denton County, she was the daughter of Arthur and Katherine Bishop Smith. She attended Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute (now the University of North Texas at Denton) where she majored in home economics and biology and was a member of the "Green Jackets". She married John W. "J.W." Banks December 27, 1941 in Denton County. She taught the six year old's Sunday School Class at North Temple Baptist Church in Dallas for many years and has been a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Irving. She was an expert seamstress and excellent help-mate for her husband, J. W., assisting him in all of his endeavors. Preceded in death by her parents and sister Pauline Pickrell, she is survived by her husband John W. Banks of Irving; daughters, Charlotte Stivers of Cedar Hill and Connie M. Banks of Grand Prairie; a son, Ronald W. Banks and wife Livia of Ennis; four grandchildren, Cathy Tharp and husband James of Rowlett, Dr. Jenny Hyde and husband Josh of Bryan, Brandon Tucker and wife Tracy of New Braunfels, Brett Tucker and wife Brandy of Crandall; and eight great grandchildren, Davis Tharp, Collin Tharp, Miranda Tharp, Anna Hyde, Alex Tucker, Devon Tucker, Jenna Tucker, and Katie Tucker. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 W. Airport Freeway in Irving; The funeral will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 403 South Main Street in Irving. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Plainview Cemetery, near Krum, in Denton County, Texas.
