Born October 24, 1924 in the Town of Schleswig, Manitowoc County, Bernice was a daughter of the late Herman C. and Hulda H. Westphalen Buchholz. She attended Woodland Park School. On September 14, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harvey Hameister at Bethlehem U.C.C. in the Town of Schleswig. They were married for 49 years before Harvey preceded her in death on May 11, 1996.
Bernice was an active member of Ebenezer U.C.C. in Sheboygan and the Eaton Ladies Aid. She was an active member of the Sheboygan County YMCA where at the age of 83 had swam over 8000 miles and the TOPS weight management club. She also was active in the Brownies and Girl Scouts for many years and enjoyed camping, fishing, snorkeling and crafts. She also loved her dogs Gizmo and Penny and her many granddogs and grandcats.
She is survived by her children, Joyce (Jerry) Blomberg, Dwight, IL, Marlene (William) Fisher, Sheboygan, and James Hameister, Sheboygan; six grandchildren, Lisa (Randy) Krueger, Sheboygan, Gibby (Penny) Garcia, Oconto, Jose (Amy) Garcia, Dwight, IL, Sandra (Marion) Irvin, Dwight, IL, Michelle (Joe) Hochrein, DePere, and Julie (Bill) Schroeder, DePere; 21 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; her brother, Eldon Buchholz, Kiel; and a sister, Eunice Hoefler, New Holstein; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Harvey, she was preceded in death by four infant grandchildren, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services for Bernice will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan. The Rev. Roger Mealiff will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in Eaton Union Cemetery in Kiel at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established in Bernice's name. The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Bernice's arrangements.
