A memorial service for James A. Whitmore, 81. Erie County Planning Advisory Board chairman who was active in city and county planning and parking projects,
will be conducted at 4 this afternoon in Forest Lawn Chapel.
The Rev. Henry W Gaylor Jr., associate pastor of Central Park Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr Whitmore. who lived at 100 Campus Dr. West, Amherst, died Wednesday evening in Millard Fillmore Hospital.
In 1922, he turned to insurance work, serving with the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Hartford, Conn , until 1928 when he came here as general manager of the Buffalo office, Guardian life Insurance Co. of America. Ten years later he entered the planning and parking fields.
Survivors include his wife, the former Florence Crane; a son, James A Whitmore Jr. movie and television star, Santa Monica, three daughters, Mrs. Richard M. McLaughlin, White Plains. Mrs. Chester M. Thalman, New York City, and Mrs. Dugald McLeod, Amherst; a brother, Dr Matthew Whitmore, Addison, seven grandchildren.
