FIRST BRIDE IN NEWTON CHURCH DIES AT AGE 87
Mrs. Frank Mrotek, Pioneer of Newton and This City, Passes Away At Home Here


Mrs. Rose Mrotek, 87, widow of the late Frank Mrotek, and who was the first bride 65 years ago in the St. Casimer's church in the town of Newton, passed away last night at the family home, 1046 South Nineteenth street, where she resided with her two daughters, Mary and Blanche Mrotek.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at nine o'clock from the home and at 9:30 from the St. Mary's Catholic church, with interment in the cemetery there.

The deceased was seriously ill for only a day. Up to Thursday she had been able to be up and about in the house. She was born in Germany April 16, 1844 and at the age of 21 came to America and settled in this county. At Nordheim there, 65 years ago she was married to Frank Mrotek, their wedding being the first to be solemnized in the St. Casimer's Catholic church of that community. Mr. Mrotek passed away at the family home here March 9 of last year.

Seven Children Survive
Seven children survive. They are Blanche and Mary at home, Mrs. William Rohrer, Mrs. John G. Zaczek, John A. Mrotek, Robert Mrotek, all of this city and Mrs. John C. Landowski, of Milwaukee. There are also nineteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

MARRIED SIXTY YEARS TODAY AT NORDHEIM

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mrotek, 1046 South Nineteenth street, are today and this evening celebrating their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Just sixty years ago today Rose Mrotek became the bride of Frank Mrotek at the St. Casimir’s church at Nordheim, Manitowoc county. The Rev. B. Buczynski read the services.

Mr. and Mrs. Mrotek were the first couple to be married in that church. Nine children were born to them, seven of whom are living, Miss Mary Mrotek, Miss Blanche Mrotek, both at home, Mrs. William Roher, Manitowoc; Mrs. John G. Zaczek, Manitowoc; John A. Mrotek, South Nineteenth street, Robert Mrotek, proprietor of Capitol Hotel, Mrs. John C. Landowske, Milwaukee.

In spite of their advanced age, both principals enjoy good health and hope to be living fifteen more years.

Open house is being held today and this evening to relatives and friends of the couple. Many congratulations and best wishes were received this morning and early this afternoon by the couple on the wedding date that is well known as the sapphire wedding anniversary.

There are 17 grandchildren, one great grandchild who will be present with relatives and friends this evening at the Mrotek home.

COUPLE WED 60 YEARS HAVE OPEN HOUSE

Wedded sixty years ago today, in the St. Casimir’s Catholic church at Northeim, being the first couple to be married there, Mr. And Mrs. Frank Mrotek, 1046 South Nineteenth street are today holding open house to celebrate the occasion, surrounded by their children and relatives. Although Mr. Mrotek is 90 years of age and his wife 87, both are enjoying fairly good health and are able to be up and around daily.

The wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. B. Buczynski and a few years afterwards the couple removed to this city to reside and except for a short time that they made their home on a farm in Kewaunee county, have always resided here. Mr. Mrotek during most of his active life followed the lakes, serving on many of the early day crafts out of this port. For the past few years, he has lived a retired life.

The maiden name of Mrs. Mrotek was the same as that of her husband, although they were not related, it being Rose Mrotek. Nine children were born to them of whom seven are living as follows: Mary and Blanche, at home, Mrs. William Rohrer, Mrs. John Zaczek, John Mrotek, Robert Mrotek, and Mrs. John C. Landowski of Milwaukee.

The Mrotek home today was the scene of a merry gathering as scored called to tend congratulations. There were seventeen grandchildren present for the celebration and also one great grandchild, a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Al Rohrer.
