Phineas Coe was born in Durham, June 5th, 1753, son of Josiah and Sarah (Burr) Coe.
He was among the Connecticut men who marched on The Lexington Alarm, April 19, 1775; and later he served in the Continental Army and also was quartermaster of a troop of horse.
He was one of the original settlers of Hartland, Connecticut., locating first in the West Parish, and then removed (about 1797) to The East Parish, where he remained until his death.
He represented Hartland in the Connecticut Assembly of 1807,9,11-14, and 17.
He married October 15, 1780 Rhoda Banning.
They had 7 children:
1. Rhoda b. March 12, 1781 d. Aug 28, 1785
2. Miles b. Jan. 5, 1783
3. Anson b. Dec. 10, 1784
4. Elijah b. Sep. 20, 1787, drowned Sep. 1, 1790.
5. Rhoda Polly b. Oct 13, 1789
6. Elijah Banning b. Oct 7, 1793 killed Dec 23, 1803 while trying to jump over a fence.
7. Sally b. Sep 14, 1796
