Charles Lee Drexler, 65 years, of Dundee, died Sunday, November 17, 2013, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti, MI, from complications of a stroke. Friends may call at the
Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Thursday, from 2-8 PM. Services will be at the Funeral Home Friday, November 22, at 11 AM. Cremation will follow. Born September 30, 1948, in Tecumseh, MI, Chuck was the son of Donald and Dolores
(Hoagland) Drexler. He was raised by his grandparents, Grant and Lydia Hoagland, in Britton, MI. Chuck attended the Britton Schools and graduated in 1966. Chuck married
Ruth Spencer, March 9, 1994, in Toledo, OH. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and was employed as a Transport Officer for the State of Michigan Center
for Forensic Psychiatry for many years, retiring in 2001. Chuck's post retirement employment was at the Wilderness Bar and Grill. Chuck was an avid sports fan and loved
the Michigan Wolverines, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Detroit Red Wings. He participated in many school sports, and continued playing softball and golf for many years. Chuck coached football, baseball, softball, and basketball for many years and school districts including Dundee, Britton, Lincoln, and St. John's in Monroe. Chuck was a member of the Board of The Dundee Senior Center, the Historical Preservation Society (Old Mill Museum), the Dundee Area Business Association, (representing the Old Mill, Downtown Halloween Bash, Christmas Parade, and Mayfly Music Festival), and former member of the Dundee Moose Lodge, Village of Dundee Council, and the Village of Dundee Planning Commission. Chuck had many friends and family members, all of whom he cared about deeply. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when asked. He often referred to his children's friends and younger friends as his "Adopted Kids".
Survivors include: his wife, Ruth; daughter, Tramayne (John) Fouts; son, Scott (Melissa)Drexler; step-daughter, Emily (Casey) Sampson and grandson, Isaac; sister, Barbara Yek; and many half-sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and a daughter Trista. Contributions for Mr. Drexler may be made to: the Family or the Historical Preservation Society of Dundee (The Old Mill).
