LeRoy L. Hammel, age 84, of New London, formerly of Seymour, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. Joseph Residence in New London with his family by his side. He was born February 19, 1929 to the late Louis and Esther (Behm) Hammel in the town of Newton, Manitowoc County.He graduated from Valders High School in 1947. LeRoy served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1957 to 1961. He was united in marriage to Bernice Klitzke. She preceded him in death on March 15, 1995.LeRoy worked his entire life as a truck driver. He enjoyed polka dancing, going on vacations, and trips to the casino. LeRoy and his family spent many weekends at the family cottage in Lakewood.On July 30, 1999 he married Florence Bessette.He is survived by his wife, Florence; children: Diane (Brian) Hammel Leisch, Green Bay; Jim (Marlene) Hammel, Waupaca; Donna (Harold "Sputsie") Ambrosius, Green Bay; Nancy (Steve) Eick, Seymour; Laurie (Chester) Brzozowski, Green Bay; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 2 expected great-grandchildren; step-children: Connie (Gordon) Gabrielson, and Virginia Schweitzer, both of New London; 7 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Further survived by his brother, Donald (Marilyn) Hammel, town of Newton; and sister Lucille (Chester) Greunke, Burlington, WI.LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; brother, Gordon; sister, Delores Schmidt; step-children: Clarence Samson Jr and Barbara Ritchie. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Seymour veterans will conduct military honors.
