James "Jimmy" Albert Taylor, of North Charleston died November 18, 2013.

Born in Johnsonville, SC on September 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Lory Askins Taylor and Mildred Lambert Taylor.

Jimmy's father died in a tragic accident when James Albert was one year old, leaving his mother alone to rear him and his three brothers and two sisters. He grew up in Johnsonville and graduated from Johnsonville High School. He attended Pfeiffer College in North Carolina.

He had to return home from college after his two brothers, Leland and Carroll, died in an accident while fishing at Santee.

Mr. Taylor was a US Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater on Okinawa and was part of the occupying forces in Japan, landing in Tokyo the day after the surrender was signed.

After the war he went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. While working there he met Homer Norton. They became friends and eventually business partners. In 1956 they opened The Outboard Shop on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston where they built their business on hard work, service and honesty. He retired after 30 years.

Mr. Taylor was a long time faithful member of the North Charleston United Methodist Church. He served in many capacities there - choir member, teacher, volunteer cook, and many other positions. Jimmy was very dedicated Christian who always wanted to share his faith. He was a great cook who volunteered his skills cooking for church events, a homeless shelter, and friends and family. Jimmy also loved to hunt and fish.

Mr. Taylor was predeceased by his wife, Doris "Dottie" Amerson. They were married on September 5, 1948 until her death on February 23, 2008-almost sixty years together. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by all of his siblings - Eugene H. Taylor, Leland Taylor, John Carroll Taylor, Mary Wanna Taylor Thompson, and Lola Myrle Taylor. He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, family members by marriage and many friends.

Visitation will be held, November 20, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held, November 21, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at North Charleston United Methodist Church, North Charleston, SC. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
