The same and other Confederate records indicate he enlisted as a private in Company A, 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment, on July 7, 1861, in Camden, Alabama. He died of disease at the Danville General Hospital on Aug 23 or Oct 18, 1862.

According to his Alabama military record, he died of disease before collecting $50 owed to him by the regiment. He is also entitled to, and never collected, transportation at military expense from Richmond, Virginia, to his home in Camden, Alabama, and back, in lieu of furlough.
