During the month of April the Battalion conducted normal combat operations in its assigned area of responsibility in Quang Tin Province. On April 1, while conducting a search and destroy operation in the Thon Hai and Trung Tin village complexes near the junction of the Tam Ky, Ly Tin District borders the Marines engaged the VC on several occasions. During two of the engagements two Marines were killed in the encounters and three were wounded. One of the casualties was PFC Ruminski who was killed in action from hostile rifle fire.

"Military funeral services for Lance Cpl. Robert P. Ruminski, 21, of 2323 Jackson St., Two Rivers, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps who was killed in action while on patrol duty April 1, near Quang Tin, Vietnam Republic, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Klein and Stangel Inc., Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. with a solemn requiem high Mass at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
"Mr. Ruminski was born March 11, 1946, son of Paul and Beatrice Silbersack Ruminski. Following his graduation from Washington High School he was employed at Paragon Electric Co. Inc. He was a member of St. Luke Parish. He entered the Marine Corps in March of 1966 and had been in the Republic of Vietnam since last September.
"Besides his parents, he is survived by five sisters; a brother (Private); and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. John Ruminski, of Two Rivers. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday where the rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m."
