George was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan April 28, 1929 to Frank and Genevra Laundy. During his childhood he attended St. James Episcopal Church where he served as an Alter Boy.

George joined the United States Navy in February of 1946, he completed his training at Great Lakes Training Camp.He served aboard the USS Turner DD-834 and The USS Quick. Upon his honorable discharged he returned to the Soo where he completed his education and graduated from Soo High Class of 1948. He attended his 30th year class reunion in 1978.

George served in the Merchant Marines for several years. He told me stories of being on the Great Lakes, and how the waves on Lake Superior could get bigger than the ocean.

In 1954 George joined the United States Marine Corps, while stationed at Camp Pendleton, he stop to visit distant relatives and there she was Sara, they married on September 29th, 1954, shortly afterwards, George was shipped overseas to Japan and returned a week after their daughter Margaret's first birthday.
It was then he decided that the service life was no longer for him. He received his Honorable dicharged and worked for Convair.

On April 21st, 1959 a week before his 30th birthday he joined the City of San Diego Fire Department. He became an Engineer in 1969, later became a Captain and stayed in that position until his retirement in 1984.

George was a very quick witted man, ask the lady at DVM, she'll tell you after she corrected his written test she said oh you got a 100% and to her he replied well would you have expected any less of me? He was extremely intelligent. He always knew the answer to the final jeopardy questions, we always wanted him to go on the show, but we knew he never would. I suppose he didn't want to show the others up.

George had quite a sense of humor too, rolling the B.C. out of bed, waking her up the first morning of summer vacation to tell her she didn't have to get up, pretending to be the Grinch and hiding the Christmas tree.

George was a very honest and truthful man. He told it the way it was. I remember waiting up some nights to talk to him, he could tell the best stories about his life. Some of the things he did were amazing.

He loved us all in his own special way. I know Sara and the Punky Kid, were the most fortunate ones of us all, they not only could call him husband or dad, but, they could also call him their best friend.
