Gladys Mae (Brown) Hoover, 94, of Palmyra, passed away Thursday November 28, 2013 at home with family by her side. She was born Friday, August 8, 1919 to the late Ralph and Edna (Gingrich) Brown. She was predeceased in 1983 by her loving husband Paul Boyd Hoover.
She was a graduate of Palmyra class of 1937 and Lebanon Valley College class of 1942 with a B.S. degree in Music Education and a minor in English. She taught for 33 years and retired from Northern Lebanon School District. She directed the choir at Salem U.C.C. in Campbelltown for 3 years, and was the Minister of Music at Bethany U.M. Church, Palmyra for 25 years, directing 3 choirs and serving as the organist. She was a member of Palmyra First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, served as substitute organist, taught adult Sunday School classes and served on many committees.
She is survived by a son, Gregory P. Hoover and wife Frances (Sonnon) Hoover; 2 grandsons, Michael Hoover of Palmyra and Daniel Hoover of Reading. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald G. Brown.
She was a member of the Palmyra Senior Citizens where she served as 1st Vice President for several years, was chorister and directed the Senior Citizen Chorus. She was a charter member and first President of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 6417.
Family and friends are invited for viewing on Wednesday, December 4th from 7 to 9 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine St., Palmyra 17078. Burial will be held on Thursday, December 5th at 11 AM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 PM at Palmyra First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Birch St., Palmyra 17078 with Pastor David Harris officiating.
