MILLS RIVER-Charles F. Collins, 84, of Mills River, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 while reading his Bible in his favorite chair.
Charles was born on December 27, 1928 to the late Henry Washington and Clara Floyd Collins in Baxley, Georgia. One of seven children, Charles left home at the early age of 15 to begin his career as a welder in a shipyard in Georgia . Relying on his previous construction experience, Charles and three partners founded Industrial Maintenance Overflow Corporation in Hendersonville in 1964. As the president and, eventually the sole proprietor of "I.M.O.C O," Charles led the company to become not only one of the largest family owned employers in Western North Carolina, but also one of the most well respected. Charles proudly served our country during World War II in the Navy. In 1990, Charles was able to realize a lifelong dream and began a racing career that continued for more than twenty years.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Annetta; one daughter, Lana and husband, Troy Pace; three sons, Keith, Glenn and Greg Collins; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Henderson County. Two step-sons: Steve Buchanan of Gastonia and Brian Buchanan of Burnsville and four step-grandchildren.
Charles was the glue that held our family together. All of our lives have been enriched to have known him, loved him, and been loved by him. He loved our Lord and his family very much. We miss you, Dad.
The visitation will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M. at Mud Creek Baptist Church immediately following the visitation with Dr. Robert Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park
