Army Cpl. Bibby was assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Detachment, 422 Civil Affairs Battalion, Greensboro, North Carolina, as a chemical operations specialist. He was responsible for nuclear, biological and chemical detection and decontamination for his unit. Bibby was killed when his convoy was attacked on its way to a water treatment facility - an improvised explosive device exploded. “Markie” was a 1996 graduate of Pender High School. He was voted “Most Likely to Succeed,” and was involved with sports, student government and JROTC. Mark served four years in the U.S. Army and acquired the position of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Specialist, specializing in decontaminating nuclear and biological warfare. He re-enrolled in 2001 at North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, as transportation major in the School of Business and Economics to complete his degree. His education was interrupted when he was deployed to Iraq as a member of the Reserve Component Unit on Jan. 30, 2003.
