Heriberto was born in Laredo, before his parents moved to San Antonio where he grew up.
He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard 27 July 1965, at a recruiting office in San Antonio.
Upon arriving in Vietnam, he was assigned to USGC Point Express COGARD Division-11, TF 115 USNAVFORV in An Xugen Province, Vietnam. Heriberto died while participating in a small boat reconnaissance patrol in the Southeast Section of Ca Mau Peninsula. At the time of his death he was serving with Coast Guard Division Eleven in An Thoi.
Survived by his parents, Heriberto O and Juanita Hernandez and his brother, Hector S Hernandez of 3123 Hatton Drive, San Antonio, Texas.
Hector served in the US Coast Guard, also. Memorial #121770933.
