Alfred R. Scherer, age 76, of 3719 S. 26th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Thomas Wojciechowski O.F.M. with burial at St. Peter Cemetery, Manitowoc.
He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Manitowoc, son of the late Edward and Monica Skrzypczynski Scherer. On May 16, 1953, he married the former Shirley Dembsky at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Alfred was an auto body mechanic with Hamachek Auto and First Chrysler.
Survivors include his wife: Shirley Scherer, Manitowoc; two daughters and a son-in-law: Karen Scherer, South Milwaukee, Lynn and Jerome Keehan, Manitowoc; five sons and daughters-in-law: Steven and Bonnie Scherer, Tony Scherer, Michael Scherer, Robert and Liz Scherer, all of Manitowoc, Richard and Kathy Scherer, Two Rivers; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother and sister-in-law: Daniel and Dorothy Scherer, Two Rivers; and his mother-in-law: Mildred Dembsky, Manitowoc. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by an infant son.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
