In 1900 he and his parents, brothers Milton and Harry W, and a boarder, 31-year-old Hetta Morningstar, lived on a farm they were renting in Napoleon Township in the same county.

In 1920 he, his wife, their two children, and his mother lived in a house they owned, with a mortgage, in Napoleon, OH. He worked as a conductor for a steam railroad and his mother worked doing nursing for a private family.

In 1930 he and Mary and their three children lived in a house they were renting for $35 a month at 623 Prospect Avenue in Lima, OH. They did have a radio. He worked as a conductor on a steam railroad and son Robert worked as a picture operator at a theater.
