As a long time cowboy he worked for the Alexander Ranch at Lueders, owned by Dr. Jim and Minor Alexander, Louie Bob Davis Ranch in Albany, as well as multiple other ranches throughout Texas. From 1952 - 1962 he owned and operated a trucking business and worked in the oil field. From 1962 - 1997, he worked for the Jim Polk Ranch.
