Seth died Oct. 30th or 31st. His death certificate indicates he died on the 30th, but then two lines down it indicates he was last seen alive on the 31st. The family Bible indicates 30th so that's what we're listing here.

Born in Ohio, the family moves to El Paso , Illinois when Seth was quite young. When the Civil War broke out Seth enlisted and served from Aug. 15, 1862 to June 9, 1865. He was a Private in Company F of the 88th Illinois Infantry. The 88th left Chicago with 900 names on the roll and returned with only 209 men on the list. In the fall of 1863 at Waldren Ridge near Chattanooga, Tennessee, Seth along with others was taken prisoner. Ultimately, the Confederates gave them parole. It took them several days to reach Union lines.

Seth returned to Livingstone County after his discharge from the army. He married Sarepta Florence Trask June 2, 1867. They began farming in Charlotte Township until 1884 when they left for southwest Nebraska where Seth took out a homestead and timber claim.

They were the parents of seven children:
Twin boys Wilson Burritt and Judson Trask born Oct. 23, 1869, who both died less than a year later on Aug. 21, 1870;
James Eben "Eben";
Ira Emery "Emery";
Seth Herbert "Herb";
Mary Florence;
Sarepta Trask.

Around 1900 Seth and Sarepta sold their homestead and purchased a home at the north end of Parker Street in Palisade where they lived until 1915. At that time they moved into three rooms built for them on the north side of the home of their daughter (Mrs. Sarepta Fellers) where they lived their remaining days.
