Crist ( or Christ or Christopher or Christian ) Gens and his wife came from Meckelberg , Germany with several of his brothers. One brother might have been named Ernst. He came to America in 1860.
There is an Ernest Gens living in Chautauqua in the 1892 census age 51 working as a farmer and tanner born in Germany
An 1865 NY census lists his name as Christian. That might be an error, or they may not have been able to afford a headstone big enough to fit his whole name.

An 1870 NY census lists his name as Christopher, age 34 years old, with his wife Augusta , and children Mary age 7, Henry age 5, Charles age 3. His occupation is listed as tanner and a currier. There were several tanneries in the area once. The survey asks if anyone is the home was deaf. dumb, blind, insane or idiotic and fortunately the survey says no.

He had 8 children with Augusta Gens. These include Mary C. Gens Ahern,, Henry, George, Will, Charles and Fred. Also a Minnie Gens Boye Find A Grave Memorial# 17281432 who is buried here too. He had a daughter Carrie Gens Dockum also

The 1892 census lists Crist Gens 55 worked as a tanner , wife Augusta 50, their sons William age 22 working as a laborer. Henry and Charles. Also there was Andreas Steffen 62 father of Catherine Steefen Henry Gens wife and Emma Schrumm age 16 nece of Catherine , Henry's wife Cathy , Charles 26 working as a tanner too. Confusing! An Aunt and niece married 2 brothers

After Augusta passed, he married Christina ( Maiden name unknown) Boye Gens who came over from Germany. In a 1900 census they were both 60 years old. Says Crist and Christiana married in 1896, about a year after Augusta died.

He died at about age 63. A newspaper clipping I saw once said "Crist Gens lived in Laona and met death in a most sensational manner at 5:50 o'clock. He had been out in the garden and pulled up a crate of onions." Hope I can find this full clipping.
Dear great grandfather, thank you for living and having the courage to come to America.

I think one of his brothers who came over from Germany with him was Ernest Gens ( 1849-1894) Findagrave # 36948359 I think there was at least one more brother.
