Rites For Joseph Abbett Held at Newark Tuesday
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Newark Christian church for Joseph Morton Abbett, Rev Terry Armstrong of Knox City officiated.
The body was at an Edina funeral home until Tuesday morning when it was taken to the family home. Burial was in the Newark cemetery.
Mr. Abbett, 79, died at 6:30, Sunday morning, at his home near Newark.
Born on Oct. 3, 1877, at Newark, he was the son of Milton D. and Mary Tilly Abbett, He was married to Frances Virginia Freeman at Edina on May 13, 1903.
Surviving are his wife; a granddaughter, Mrs. Elaine Ferguson of Logansport, Ind.; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister, and a son, Claude, Tiskiwa, Ill., who died five months ago.
For more than 60 years, the couple had lived near the Newark community, where they had operated a farm until several years ago, when he retired because of poor health.
