Brick, Professor Delmar C.

Professor Delmar C. Brick age 94, a Manitowoc resident, was taken to his heavenly home on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.

He was born in Manitowoc on December 12, 1918 son of the late Adolph and Erna (Lippert) Brick. He was baptized on January 5, 1919 and confirmed on March 20, 1932 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. He attended Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown from 1932-1936, Northwestern College in Watertown from 1936-1940 and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville from 1940-1943. Delmar served as a tutor at Northwestern College from 1943-1944 and was ordained in the ministry in July of 1944. Pastor Brick served as asst. pastor at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Jefferson from 1944-1945, he then served as pastor at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church in Kimberly from 1945-1953. On January 2, 1946 Pastor Brick was married to Ione E. Huebner at First German Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Pastor Brick served as Dean of Students at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN from 1954-1958. Pastor Brick received the Fulbright Scholarship to Italy in the summer of 1963 and received his Master's Degree in Latin at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1964. Professor Brick served at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN until his retirement in 1987. Professor Brick and his wife Ione retired to Manitowoc in 1987.

Professor Brick enjoyed genealogy, traveling and music. He was a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church. He volunteered at the Manitowoc-Two Rivers Chamber of Commerce, Capitol Civic Centre, Manitowoc County Historical Society, Manitowoc Visitor and Information Center and Bethany Church. Professor Brick played violin with the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra and the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra.

Survivors include his wife: Ione Brick, Manitowoc; three daughters and one son-in-law: Nona Celia, Hawthorne, NJ; Lois Brick, Centennial, CO; Mary (Edwin) Spain III, Sindlfingen, Germany; three grandchildren: Sarah (Bryan) Killian, Springfield, VA; Nona (Doug) Healy, Mars, PA; Michael Celia, Edison, NJ; five great grandchildren: Simon, William, Molly Killian, Liam and Lisbeth Healy; three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Professor Lloyd (Inez) Huebner, Greenfield; Wayne (Diane) Huebner, Manitowoc; Nona (Robert) Stevens, Manitowoc; one special niece: Marge Yehle, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Adolph and Erna Brick; one brother: Elroy Brick; one brother-in-law: Pastor Elton Huebner; and one sister-in-law: Ruth Teteak.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. The Rev.'s Robert Kujawski and Stephen Melso will officiate with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
