Vera was born in Melville, LA, August 31, 1939 to the late Linton and Isola Sylvester and passed away at her home, December 1, 2013 at age 74. She was the wife of the late Louis Herthum, and retired from Dillard's and D.H. Holmes where she worked in the gifts and china department.

Vera loved to cook, and entertain, and enjoyed collecting dolls, teapots, and teacups. In addition, she loved decorating for Christmas and working in her yard.

She is survived by her son, James Gregory "Greg" Soileau and his wife, Lori; sister, Priscilla Terrell; brother, Roland Sylvester; grandchildren, Stephen Soileau, Blakely Soileau, Lee Elgin, and his wife Beth, Lisa Canter, Cody Ansley, and Corey Ansley; two great grandchildren Sloane and Channing Elgin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Vera is preceded in death by her son, Jeff Ansley; a daughter, Jaune Canter, and her husband Russell; sisters, Helen Jeansonne and Lourella Fontenot; and brother, Linton Sylvester.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Boulevard, with visitation. Vera's family request that in lieu of flowers, please contribute to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in her memory.
